Representative Projects

Building Enclosure Repair, Austin, Texas
The Avenue Lofts condominium building was constructed circa 1925.  Problems at the facility included extensive water infiltration through the windows, perimeter walls, and foundation, as well as deterioration of the stucco exterior façade.  Apollo BBC evaluated, designed, and implemented a repair strategy for the exterior facade restoration. Restoration comprised extensive waterproofing renovations, stucco repair, window replacement, below-grade waterproofing, and foundation drain installation.
Storm Mitigation, Houston, Texas
A critical structure belonging to a multinational company required upgrades and protection from potential high wind and flooding events.  Our experts analyzed the wind and flooding potential for the building during a severe storm event, designed a renovation strategy, and implemented our recommendations.  Project recommendations included structural strengthening and upgrading of vulnerable components and the addition of emergency flood protection systems.
Damage Assessment, Biloxi, Mississippi
The Hard Rock Casino, a newly constructed 12-story hotel and adjacent multi-level parking facility, sustained wind and storm-surge damage related to Hurricane Katrina.  Apollo BBC experts assisted the owners by providing recommendations to expedite the repairs and by providing peer-review of proposed structural repair strategies.
Emergency Overhead Response and Wall Stabilization, Galveston, Texas
The Eibands Building is a four story, load-bearing brick structure, originally constructed circa 1870 that has been renovated as a mixed-use residential building.  During the renovation, an exterior corner of the load baring perimeter brick wall became unstable and threatened to fall and damage nearby structures.  Apollo BBC consultants provided rapid response services, designing and implementing the emergency wall stabilization systems for the rehabilitation of the wall.
Mechanical System Retro-Commissioning, South Padre Island, Texas
The South Padre Island Convention Center is located in an environment that rapidly corrodes and deteriorates materials.  Apollo BBC evaluated the existing condition of mechanical HVAC systems and retro-commissioned the controls to restore their operation.  Our investigation included the analysis of existing conditions and testing of individual components to determine functionality.  Repair and recalibration of existing mechanical HVAC and controls components resulted in more than $250,000 cost savings from replacement of components, increased indoor comfort, and overall improved building performance.
Design and Construction Review, San Marcos, Texas
The Sanctuary is a four-story church building that was redeveloped as a dormitory.   During construction, it experienced unexpected sagging of its original wood framing.  Apollo BBC assisted the construction team and reviewed the renovation structural drawings and details for potential problems related to the expected structural loads, operational issues, and coordination problems.  Our involvement resulted in recommendations for upgraded sheathing related to shear-diaphragm concerns and on site discovery of structural problem conditions that would have been cost-prohibitive or impossible to repair after the completion of construction.
Structural Stabilization, Historic Residence, Ocean Springs, Mississippi
The Charnley House, designed by notable architects Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright, was severely damaged by storm surge during Hurricane Katrina.  As a part of an assessment team working for the State of Mississippi Department of History and Archives, we performed a structural evaluation and provided recommendations for stabilization of this important residence.
